Naira Marley
By ITTY OKIM
Afeez Fashola is popular for being skillful with using controversies for publicity. His crisis management abilities appear to be off-the-hook as he seems to always know how to use one controversy or the other to push his songs into the ears of Nigerians.
However, lately, there has been no controversy by the ‘Soapy’ crooner. The effect of this is very much visible in how his latest single, ‘Didolobo’ didn’t do so well. He had tried playing the same track he did with ‘Soapy’, selling fornication and other terms that imply sex, but it obviously didn’t do the magic for the UK deportee this time around.
Perhaps, the public has become used to him being controversial that controversies by Naira Marley are no longer regarded as controversial. Abnormal has become a norm with him.
At the start of the Islamic Ramadan fast, he had declared that he would stay off immoral acts throughout the season. This is probably the reason the internet is not raging right now with something ‘wrong’ he has said or done like it used to.
Whatever is going on – be it planned or unintentional – Naira needs an unexpected controversy and fast in order to save his career from the iceberg it is headed for.
