A 2019/2020 Police recruit, Gladys Tobrapa Grikpa, from the Force Headquarters (FCT) Abuja, has won five gold medals in the ongoing 12th Biennial Nigeria Police Games tagged Anambra 2020.
Grikpa won the gold medals in 500, 200, and1,000 metres sprints road race respectively and team time trial, which is the only team event.
Also, a back-to-back gold medalist in 2013, 2016 and 2020 Police Games, Busari Gito Michael from Zone 11 has won three gold medals in the cycling event.
The Secretary General of Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Shammah Aliyu, while expressing happiness that the cycling event is growing in leaps and bounds, said that 60 cyclists took part in the event.
He observed that the event marks the first time cycling event is included in police games features.
“I advocate for youth empowerment programmes so as to close the gap of unemployment in the country,” Aliyu stated.
On his part, the Chairman of Police Cycling Association, CSP Abbas Abdullahi, urged the winners and losers to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship, even as he called for talent hunt programmes to discover and develop budding talents.
