Anambra PDP governorship aspirant Valentine Ozigbo
The President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), Valentine Ozigbo, over the weekend met with the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, to announce his interest to contest the governorship election on its platform in 2021.
Ozigbo, who is a political neophyte, has 17 years’ experience in the private sector, and is promising to transform the state if given the opportunity to serve.
Addressing the SWC members led by the state chairman, Chief Ndubisi Nwosu, Ozigbo said that he decided to run for the Governorship seat of Anambra state to impact positively on it and take governance to a level not seen before.
He explained that the successes he recorded in Transcorp and other sectors which include, energy, hospitality and power will be translated into the growth of Anambra State.
The Transcorp President said he will galvanise billionaires from the state for the common good of the state saying that his loaded manifesto will be released after his official declaration next year.
He said: “I have continued to consult with my people and PDP members at all levels to enable me tidy up my service as CEO of a conglomerate before jumping into politics.
“I am hundred percent ready to serve Anambra State as Governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and would make my declaration at the appropriate time.”
Ozigbo, an Amesi-born international businessman in his late ’40s, met separately with both SWC and SEC of the party on the invitation of the state working Committee to seek a way forward.
In his response, the State Chairman of PDP, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, said that Ozigbo is eminently qualified to govern Anambra state with his rich resume both in academic and work experiences.
He gave the assurance that the party will conduct a free and fair primary election to select a candidate that would unify the party saying that all the party’s aspirants would address the members of the party, particularly delegates, to enable them have an informed opinion before the primary election proper.
Nwobu stressed that Ozigbo had so far attracted the largest members of the party to his consultation, an indication that he is generally accepted.
The State Financial Secretary of the Party, Mr Okey Okpala, on his part, told the party members that Ozigbo is extremely qualified in all standards to govern Anambra at a time like this when a high flying youth is needed to transform the state with new ideas.
Earlier, while introducing Mr Valentine Ozigbo to the party, a PDP stakeholder and former House of Assembly member representing Aguata 1 Hon. Tim Egboka told the party executives that Valentine has all it takes to govern Anambra.
According to him, Ozigbo has met his people from Amesi ward in Aguata Local Government Area of the state noting that if he wins the party's primary, the entire zone will rally round him for equity sake.
News Expressreports that the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state has zoned the 2021 governorship election to the south where Ozigbo is from.
