Soludo speaking at APGA campaign flag off
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has declared his intention to deliver 50 per cent of the state’s votes to presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, come January 2027.
Making the declaration at the Ekwueme square in Awka on Friday during a ceremony to flag off the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) 2027 campaign.
He observed that APGA had no presidential candidate for the 2027 general election and would, therefore, adopt President Tinubu as its preferred candidate.
Soludo said: “Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate.
“Tinubu had demonstrated love and concern for the Igbo people, particularly the people of Anambra State.” He had appointed several Anambra indigenes to strategic positions in Lagos State during his tenure as governor.
“APGA had adopted the presidential candidate of the ruling party in previous elections. The party’s decision to support Tinubu in 2027 is a continuation of that political arrangement.
“We don’t have a presidential candidate. Tinubu is our candidate,”
The Governor stressed that Anambra State recorded fewer than 5,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, yet, the President had continued to address some of the challenges confronting the state and the South-East region.
He added: “We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state.
“I urge Ndi Anambra to support Tinubu in the 2027 election. Doing so would give the state and the South-East a stronger opportunity to engage with the Federal Government and negotiate for more developments.
“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State.
“We are targeting 50 per cent for the President. Our votes must count this time. We believe in one Nigeria. A southern president is in the offin and its our prerogative to support them so they can support us during our time.
Let’s get to work. You have three ballot papers to cast your vote, you vote for the broom symbol APC for the presidency, so Tonubu can finish his tenure. Then you vote for the cock symbol for the senate and House of Representatives positions.
“The best interest is politics of alignment, that is where Anambra stands. Campaign for APGA, campaign for APC. I formally endorse Tinubu as APGA’s presidential candidate. Progressives unite.”
