Fashola commissions The Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy

The Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy has been commissioned by the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN).

It is the outcome of a collaborative effort between the Lagos Eko Project, Lagos State Electricity Board (LASTVEB) and Skipper Limited for the development of a well-equipped facility that will produce highly skilled frontline technicians in the area of power and electrical engineering.

The academy is situated within the premises of the Government Technical College, Ikotun. According to the Lagos Eko Project Coordinator, Ms. Ronke Azeez, “The academy will complement the three-year technical education being carried out across the state technical colleges by focusing on both practical and theoretical training relevant to current industrial and domestic needs.”

Governor Fashola in his opening speech reiterated the objectives of The Lagos Skipper Engineering Academy which include:

•To provide excellent all-round instruction with a curriculum that is aligned to the current needs of the industry, entrepreneurship and further education.

•To improve the overall experiences of learners by reducing technical skill gaps and equipping them for global competitiveness.

•To build the capacity of trainers to deliver high quality industry-standard training.

•To provide a direct link between classroom instruction, technology, innovation and the industry.

•To become the hub for skilled frontline electrical and power technicians in Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general.
