Eagles land in Congo for must-win AFCON qualifier •Keshi talks tough

African champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, have arrived in Congo Brazzaville ahead of tomorrow’s crucial qualification match for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Kick-off time at the 13,000-capacity Stade Municipal in Pointe-Noire is 3:30 p.m. Nigerian time.

The crew, comprising 25 players and the coaching staff, landed in Congo early this morning via chartered flight.

The team departed the Nigerian capital, Abuja, late last night for the about three hours journey. All the players in the camp were taken along on the request of Chief Coach Stephen Keshi, who expressed appreciation for the impressive performance of all invited players.

The team’s final training yesterday morning was rigorous.

“Keshi juggled players between the possibles and the probables that practically made it impossible for anyone to guess his start list for the game against the hard tacking Congolese. Thursday session was closed to the media, even as some still sneaked into the mainbowl of the National Stadium arena in Abuja to pick the last minute brains of the technical crew,” reports MTNFootball.com.

Speaking at the end of the training session, Keshi told newsmen that the team has worked hard enough and the result will show tomorrow in Pointe-Noire, venue of the match. “Tell Nigerians to just pray for the team and have the belief that we can deliver,” he declared.

The Eagles, who trail in the third position behind South Africa and Congo in Group A, need to win tomorrow and in Uyo against South Africa next week Wednesday to entertain any hopes of being at the next AFCON to defend the titkle they esensationallyu won in February last year in South Africa.
