Hoodlums have staged a big comeback to the commercial town of Onitsha and seem to be daring the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, who served them a quit notice.

Yesterday, the member representing Onitsha South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Aniebonam, lamented the sad turn of events during plenary, imploring Governor Obiano to urgently look into the recent increasing spate of daylight robbery attacks in Onitsha.

Hon. Aniebonam noted that the hoodlums days ago came in over 40 motorcycles, wielding dangerous weapons, went to the poular Silas Road where tyres are sold, searched anybody in sight and in the process hurt a lot of people.

“My hospital right now is filled up with injured people, so much so that we don’t have space to contain others. I am calling on the something urgently to fish out the hoodlums who use all the uncompleted buildings at the Fegge area of Onitsha as operation point,” the lawmaker said.

He described the incident as one out of many recent attacks in Onitsha, stressing the need for something drastic to be done about the situation.

Hon. Aniebonam, however, commended Governor Obiano for his efforts to reduce malaria in the state through the distribution of treated mosquito nets to residents of the state.

The lawmaker, who is also the committee chairman on health, said the distribution of about 3 milion insecticide-treated mosquito nets in the state will help reduce the amount of malaria attacks, calling on people to embrace the opportunity and protect themselves from mosquito bite which causes malaria.

“We thank Governor Obiano for making the health of the people of the state paramount in his scheme. During inspection, we found out that the nets are there waiting for people but the problem is that while some people are impatient, others are totally skeptical of the exercise.”
