Breaking News: Military, Boko Haram agree immediate ceasefire

The Nigerian military and Boko Haram terrorists have reached an immediate ceasefire, the Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, said today, according to a PREMIUM TIMES report.

“There were reports the two sides were having talks over the release of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by the group April 14,” the report said.

“Details of the ceasefire deal is still sketchy but Mr. Badeh has ordered all field officers to comply with the agreement,” the report added.

Details of the ceasefire agreement are still being awaited.

Boko Haram has perpetuated a reign of terror across several northern Nigerian states since 2009, sacking communities in the North-East and killing more than 13,000 people in a bloody campaign aimed at enthroning Islamic rule in multi-religious Nigeria, which is both Africa’s most populous country and the the continent’s biggest economy.
