PDP Spokesman Ologbondiyan
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, June 24, began investigation into how some of its members allegedly compromised during the election of principal officers of the National Assembly.
The party's NWC, according to national spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, set up a fact-finding committee on the role played by some of its members during the election that produced Ahmad Lawan as Senate President and Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker respectively.
A statement by Ologbondiyan gave the terms of reference of the committee as as follows:
1. To find out why some of our Honorable Members and Senators-elect then, failed to abide by the decision of the party during the National Assembly leadership election;
2. To find out whether there is any involvement of the ruling Party in the decision taken by the members involved;
3. Where there are established reasons for taking the action by members, the committee should identify such so that the party can create mutual and political atmosphere for reasonable interaction with senators and honourable members;
4. To find out and recommend ways to checkmate such tendencies in the future and ensure that, moving forward, all members work together to defend the interest of the party at all times and circumstances.
The statement said the committee was given three weeks from the date of its inauguration to report to the NWC.
Accordingly, the committee is chaired by former president of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, while a former national secretary of the PDP, Prof. Wale Oladipo, serves as its secretary.
Some of the other members of the committee include; Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Stella Omu, Hon Austin Opara, Senator Abdul Ningi, Hon. Margaret Icheen.
Reports stated that the announcement of the committee came hours after the application by the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to inspect smart card readers and the server for the 2019 presidential election.
The application by the former vice president and the PDP was unanimously dismissed on Monday, June 24, by five-member panel of justices. (Agency Report/LN)
