Bad news from Sudan: Super Eagles fail to train for crucial AFCON qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria last night were unable to have their mandatory training at the Khartoum Stadium, venue of this evening’s must-win Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

This was disclosed by team media officer Benjamin Alaiya, who wrote on his Facebook wall: “Waterlogged pitch of the Khartoum Stadium following early evening downpour that prevented the Super Eagles from having their mandatory training on Friday night.” Alaiya attached a photo of the waterlogged pitch.

The African champions, who hit Sudan Thursday in a chartered flight, risk not being in Morocco next year to defend the title they won last year in South Africa.

They put themselves in a precarious situation by unexpectedly losing to 2-3 to visiting Congo DR in Calabra and then settling for a barren draw with hosts South Africa.

Whether Coach Stephen Keshi and his boys have any realistic chances of being in Morocco or not would become clear after today’smatch, which is scheduled to start by 6pm Nigerian time.
