Fifteen of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, students who escaped from their Boko Haram captors have been awarded scholarship at AUN Academy, the secondary school arm of American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State.

The news was broken by AUN’s proprietor, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who announced yesterday on his Facebook page:

“15 of the Chibok girls who escaped have been admitted into AUN Academy on a scholarship.

“My sincere thanks to the good spirited individuals and friends who raised funds for this worthy cause.”

Atiku also posted photos of the students in school.

A total of 276 girls were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from their dormitories on April 14, out of which 57 escaped, according to the Presidential Fact-Finding Committee on the saga.

The committee the chaired by Brigadier-General Ibrahim Sabo said in its report submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan revealed that a total of 219 girls are still being held by Boko Haram terrorists.
