APGA National Chairman, Victor Oye
A group, under the aegis of Aggrieved All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members, on Wednesday called for the resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye, and other national officers.
The group observed that Oye lacks the capacity to win elections, adding that his continued stay as the party’s national chairman will only sink the party into oblivion.
Addressing journalists in Awka, the spokesman of the group, Owelle Mbaso, urged the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to meet with the aggrieved aspirants of the party and attend to their demands to forestall “a tsunami that may befall the party during the state House of Assembly election slated for March 9.”
He decried a situation where none of the party’s stakeholders could win his zone during last week’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, including Oye. “What a mockery,” Mbaso said.
“We agreed that Oye must go. APGA is our party and he must go, so the party can move ahead. Anybody condoning Oye is a fraud.
“If the governor heeds our advice, then APGA will make a head way in the March election; otherwise, he knows the implication of ignoring our call,” he further said.
On his part, Dr. Charles Ebulue warned that if the governor, who is also APGA National Leader, fails to handle the situation well, “what will happen on March 9 will be ‘a baptism of the Holy Spirit’ when compared with what happened in last Saturday’s elections.”
While pointing out that the impact of having APGA as a minority in the state assembly would be disastrous, he insisted that Oye must refund all the monies he collected from the aspirants.
He added: “Oye has no capacity to deliver during elections. We plead with the governor not to allow APGA die in his hands.
“APGA must survive. It’s a party handed over to us by our leader, late Dim Chukwemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. Somebody kept this party alive and strong before the governor arrived. The onus is on him to ensure the party does not die in his hands.”
The aggrieved APGA aspirants demanded a refund of the money they paid for nomination, which they said run into millions of naira.
News Express reports that APGA failed to win any senatorial seat in the state, last Saturday, but only managed to win one House of Representatives seat in Anambra East.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded a landslide victory in the polls, even beating the former national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh.
