Queen of the tracks Blessing Okagbare once more blessed Nigeria with gold late yesterday when she completed a sprint double at the on-going Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

The 25-year-old, who won Monday’s 100m, claimed victory in the women’s 200m ahead of English duo Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams, returning a time of 22.25 seconds.

Okagabre thus became the 11th athlete in the history of the Commonwealth Games who to win both the 100 and the 200 metres.

“It was an effortless win for the Nigerian athlete who had no difficulty racing to the finish line in a triumphant victory despite slowing down towards the end of the race,” said one commentator at the Games.

It turned out to be a memorable night for Team Nigeria as fast-rising Ese Brume achieved a 6.56m leap in the women’s long jump event to win Nigeria’s second gold medal of the night.

Okagbare would have competed in the long jump event but it clashed with her 200m, so she chose the latter, inadvertently paving the way for the birth of yet another star in Ese Brume.
