More knocks have come the way of same sex marriage, with Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN, describing it as a manifestation of the level of social decadence currently ravaging the world.

Utuama stated this at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, West End, Asaba, during the wedding ceremony of Barr. David Umukoro and former Miss Jacqueline Owhofaria. Utuama, who later chaired the reception ceremony, congratulated the Catholic Church, the couples’ parents, Hon. Justice and Mrs. Umukoro and Engr. and Mrs. Michael Owhofaria, for ensuring that their wards conformed to acceptable biblical and social norms in a world struggling to cope with moral rectitude.

“I am particularly happy that the Catholic Church has taken a definite stand that this is the only type of marriage it will conduct. I want to also congratulate the parents of the couples for bringing them up in a way and manner that is the acceptable Christian and African norm. Today, we are witnessing the joining together in marriage of Mr. and Mrs., not Mr. and Mr. or Mrs. and Mrs. We are not here for the celebration of an aberration called same sex marriage. Same sex marriage is a reflection of the level of social decadence that is ravaging our world today. I congratulate you all and pray that this union will continue to be a model for all to see,” the deputy governor said.

Utuama used to occasion to advise men who are yet to regularise their union to try and do so. “I want to also advise anyone who is yet to regularise his wedding to please try and do so. But in doing so, don’t bother to invite me, do it quietly. It is not a time to show off,” he admonished.

The wedding, which was sponsored by Hon. and Mrs. Charles A Ajuyah, SAN, the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, had many dignitaries in attendance. They include the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Nelly Utuama, members of the state executive council, members of the state House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Macaulay Ovuzuorie, Senator and Mrs. Roland Owie, among others.
