US First Lady Michelle Obama today marked Mother’s Day by speaking out on the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Nigeria, offering her thoughts and prayers to the families.
She called for the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by a terrorist group to be returned home, in a White House an emotional address to mark Mother’s Day.
Michelle described the kidnapping of the over 200 girls from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram on April 14 as an “unconscionable act.” She pledged President Barack Obama’s support in the effort to bring the girls home.
“I want you to know that Barack has directed our government to do everything possible to support the Nigerian government’s efforts to find these girls and bring them home,” the First Lady said.
“In these girls, Barack and I see our own daughters. We see their hopes, their dreams - and we can only imagine the anguish their parents are feeling right now,” she added.
