Immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the death of former gvernor of Lagos State, Sir Michael Otedola, as yet another glorious transition, because, according to him, Otedola gave his best in the service of the country through his selfless services to Lagos State and thus died a happy and fulfilled man.
Recalling Sir Otedola’s exploits during his days as governor of Lagos State, Obi said he approached governance with a sober mind, always realising that governance was an opportunity to serve God by faithfully serving humanity. “He was another proof that governance is nothing if not a dedication to humanity and the urge to be just in the exercise of power and perquisites of office,” Obi said of Otedola, who died this morning in Lagos at age 88.
The former Anambra helmsman said the best gift to Otedola at death is for Nigerians to re-dedicate themselves to the task of making the country great in whatever capacity one finds oneself. He noted that legacies of men like Sir Otedola are worth institutionalising.
Obi prayed to God to grant repose to Sir Otedola’s soul, and to his immediate family, Lagos State and all those affected by his death, the courage to accept the will of God.
