Immediate past governor of Anambra State of Nigeria, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on the peoples of the world to return to God as the solution to many problems and vices plaguing humanity at the moment.
He proffered the solution while speaking to journalists at the Vatican City yesterday shortly after the canonisation of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II at St. Peter’s Basilica Square.
Obi, who had a private audience with Pope Francis, said that partaking in such solemn celebration reminds us about Christians who really lived the life of Christ through heroic faith and faithfulness to God. He declared that if other Christians keep their faith through living it out as Saints Pope Paul XXIII and Pope John Paul II did, the world would have been a better place.
“Look at the virtues of the two popes that were canonised today (yesterday), one, Pope John XXIII was a reformer, for he convoked the 2nd Vatican Council which did a lot for the Church and aided in the growth of faith. Look at Pope John Paul 11, he distinguished himself in the pilgrimage of faith,” Obi said
The former governor urged Nigerians to imitate the lives of these two great Popes, especially on their emphasis on peace in the world and genuine reconciliation among the peoples of the world. He called for genuine reconciliation among Nigerians and appealed to those who are out just to discredit the Government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to know that they are thereby doing violence to themselves.
Obi was on the Federal Government delegation to the Vatican, led by the Senate President, David Mark. Others include the Coordinating Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, the Minister of Environment, Mrs. Lawrencia Labaram-Mallam, and the Pilgrims Boss, Kennedy Opara, among others.
