Gunmen burn girl to death, set another girls school ablaze . . . as search for 84 abducted schoolgirls continues

Unknown gunmen in the early hours of today attacked Yana town in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State in North-West Nigeria, burning down the staff quarters of Government Girls’ Secondary School (GGSS), Yana. They also set ablaze the school bus and made away with a private car belonging to the school principal.

Reports from the area say the gunmen struck at about 2:30am. They reportedly burnt a five-year-old girl to death and destroyed several telecommunication masts in the town before vanishing into thin air.

It is not yet clear if Boko Haram, the terrorist group which Monday night abducted over 100 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State in the country’s North-East. At least 84 of the students are yet to be found, according to official reports.
