Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has commiserated with Nigerians, particularly the immediate and remote family members of victims of the bomb blast which killed scores of Nigerians in the early hours of Monday in Nyanya, Abuja, on their way to fend for their lives and families.
Akpabio, who is also chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governors’ Forum, described the blast as brutal and callous. He called on Nigerians to join hands with the federal Government in the fight against insurgencies.
On his part, Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, said that Nigeria has had enough of this senseless killing of innocent Nigerians.
He said that at the rate innocent Nigerians are being slaughtered in recent times, more Nigerians could be killed at a period the country is believed to be at peace than people were killed during the civil war, if the situation is not brought under control.
The governor said that the time has come for a national summit on the security of the nation to be held as a way of finding a lasting solution to the rampant killing of innocent Nigerians.
He advised security agencies in the country to go back to the drawing board, with the aim of taking steps that would ensure that these unwarranted killings of innocent Nigerians do not continue, adding that the situation is becoming embarrassing.
Okorocha expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in the explosion, and prayed that God would give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses and grant those injured in the incident quick recovery.
