Breaking News: Another Imo Speaker’s aide resigns as EFCC closes in

Another aide of Imo Speaker Benjamin Uwajumogu has called it quits as allegations of monumental fraud continue to swirl around the office.

Hon. Chukwunonye Irouno, the Speaker’s aide in charge of protocols and special events, resigned yesterday evening as intrigues at the Speaker’s office heightened.

“There is still no response from the speakers’ office but insider’s source is saying that they are going to announce that Hon. Irouno was sacked or suspended in order to save Speaker Uwajumogu’s face,” Imo Initiative reported. It quoted Hon. Irouno as saying in a telephone conversation that he resigned to embark on a political voyage different from Speaker Uwajumogu’s political plans in 2015 and also to show disdain for the goings on at the speaker’s office. “The Speakers Office which is a state office has now been converted to a constituency office,” Hon. Irouno was also quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Speaker Uwajumogu reportedly sneaked out of the country last night through Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos to South Africa “to cool off the pressure and tension at the Office and also to plan how to save his political career,” according to sources at his office.

Hon. Uwajumogu is said to have recently received a letter from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) inviting him to respond to damning allegations of fraud and corruption leveled against him by his former media aide, Citizen Ikenna Samuelson Iwuoha, a popular activist and socio-political crusader, who resigned two months ago.
