Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has lost its foundation Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Festus Aghagbo Nwako.
Prof. Nwako left his imprint as the university’s pioneer VC and has been immortalised by the naming of the school’s digital library after him.
A notice of his death posted on some Yahoo! communities said his burial has been fixed for March 7, 2014 at his country home, Abagana.
The cause and day of his death were not given in the death notice which described the late Emeritus Professor of Surgery in the university known variously as NAU and UNIZIK as the doyen of the medical profession in Nigeria.
The information quoted family and university sources gave the schedule of funeral activities as follows:
1. Tuesday, 4th March – Fake keep at his Enugu home, No. 4, Anamalu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.
2. Thursday, 6th March – Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Independence Layout, Enugu, by 8am. Also valedictory sessions at UNTH 9.30am; Nauth Nnewi 12noon; UNIZIK Awka 2pm; vigil mass at Abagana 5pm.
3. Friday, 7th March – Burial and interment at Abagana.
