IGP Ibrahim Idris
A Board of Trustees member of the Integrity Youth Alliance and Publisher of Swift Reporters, Adewole Kehinde has scored the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, high on his achievements so far in office despite distractions from different quarters.
He commended the IGP especially on the arrest of Nigerian billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a Evans.
According to Adewole, the Nigeria Police Force wouldn’t have achieved this present feat, if not for the operational background and hard work of Idris.
Adewole noted that Idris’ operational background has led to clampdown on criminals, recovering of cache of arms and ammunition.
Adewole said: “Idris’ sterling performances in Kano and Nasarrawa States, where he was a State Commissioner of Police added to his wealth of experiences.
“His previous engagement in the Police Mobile Force and the Operations Department of the Police for several years gave him the added advantage to be a performer either as CP Kano, Nasarrawa and now as IGP.”
Adewole further said that but for Idris as CP Kano, Boko Haram members would have overrun the state.
He noted that Idris’ ideas and his modus operandi helped in the check of activities of Fulani herdsmen in Nasarawa State.
Adewole said that the quick thinking of Idris led to creation of crack squads, led by Senior Policemen like Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari and Ibrahim Abu, who have arrested armed robbers and notorious criminals such as Vampire and Evans.
Adewole on the other hand, said the establishment of Eminent Persons Forum, made up of professionals and well-meaning citizens, by Idris, had further helped to check violent crimes in different communities.
He said: “The Eminent Persons Forum has led to the arrests of notorious criminals in the past six months.
“I learnt that the arrest of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Port Harcourt, River State in connection with the 2016 December election in the state was done successfully through a tip-off by a member of the Eminent Persons Forum.”
He further revealed that one of the reasons the IGP has performed well in the past one year was because he placed competent officers in the right places.
He also commended the IGP for making Federal Highways safer for Nigerians. He specifically mentioned the Lagos-Abuja Road, the Kaduna-Jebba Road and the Lagos-Benin-Onitsha Road as highways where Idris had in the past one year fortified security.
