Massive shake-up in the Army, Navy •5 new GOCs and 3 new FOCs appointed

The new Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, and his naval counterpart, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, have shaken up the two services.

In the Army, 127 have been redeployed, among them 36 major generals and 52 brigadier generals. Five new General Officers Commanding (GOCs) have been appointed,according to a statement by Army spokesman, Brigadier-General Olajide Laleye. The new GOCs are Major General Kingsley Osuji for 1 Infantry Division, Kaduna; Major General EF Abejirin, 2 Division, Ibadan; Major General JS Zaruwa, 3 Division, Jos; Major General TI Dibi, 81 Division, Lagos and Major General AT Yusuf, 82 Division, Enugu.

Other major new postings are as follows:

•Brigadier General Mustapha Onoiveta, Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff

•Major General EB Awala, Chief of Training and Operations at Defence headquarters

•Major General Gani Wahab, Chief of Administration, Army headquarters

•Major General M.D. Abubakar, Commander Infantry Corps

•Major General Suleiman Labaran, Commander, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

•Major General J.A.H. Ewansiha, Chief of Training and Operations

•Major General Jack Nwaogbo, Chief of Policy and Plans

•Major General S.O. Adeosun, the Chief of Logistics.

In the Navy, 75 officers were affected in the redeployment comprising 29 rear admirals, 28 commodores and 18 captains. Three new Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs) have been appointed, namely, Rear Admiral Peter Agba, Central Naval Command, Yenagoa; Rear Admiral Shehu Usman, Logistics Command, Oghara; and Rear Admiral Obiora Medani, Eastern Naval Command, Calabar.
