CABINET SHAKE-UP TO WAIT •Why Jonathan changed his mind

The Nigerian leader, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has shelved the dissolution of his cabinet, News Express can disclose this afternoon.

President Jonathan had been expected to submit a list of his new ministers to the Senate for ratification last week but that never happened.

“Cabinet shake-up is no more on the President’s cards for now; it won’t happen this month and may not happen until at least in a month’s time,” a Presidency source disclosed.

The source explained that Jonathan is preoccupied with other matters at the moment. Though the source did not drop a hint on what the President is preoccupied with, News Express reports that they may not be unconnected with the high-wire politics in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which led to the ouster, on Thursday, of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as National Chairman and a search for his replacement, as well as the on-going shake-up in the military, which led to the sudden change of all the Service Chiefs on Thursday.

Apart from changing several of his ministers in the impending cabinet shake-up, President Jonathan is also expected to finally fill the 12 vacancies created when ministers were dropped in a minor cabinet shake-up about seven months ago.
