Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu,
TheSenate has resolved to investigate the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) over the alleged raiding and carting away of goods in shops at a rice market located in Sango-Otta, Ogun State.
Senator Gholahan Dada representing Ogun West Senatorial District raised a motion under Order 42 and 52, over the unlawful seizure of rice and invasions of shops by the customs in Ogun State.
In his prayers, he advised the Committee on Customs and Excise to investigate the harassment and ensure justice is done, admitting that the Customs has power under the law to carry out raids.
The decision to probe the Customs’ actions was reached after Senate Leader Senator Ahmed Lawan argued that it was necessary for the legislature to look if the Customs did not do anything wrong while carrying out the raid.
Senate leader added that the Committee can investigate to ascertain if the customs had acted professionally or not.
