Traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Iweka
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE
The traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), has warned Obosi people and other residents of Anambra state to desist from carrying out activities that would imperil the continued existence of the planet earth.
He gave the warning when the Anambra State Model Schools Recycling Initiative, the theme of which is, “Clean Schools, Brighter Futures”, took place at the Ire Central School, Obosi on October 29, 2026.
“I wrote a book about how aliens relocated to the earth because they destroyed their own abode. Now our human activities are destroying the ozone layer, causing the sun rays to affect us, negatively.
“If we don’t fight the things that destroy our ozone layer, may be, two hundred years from now, our earth will be endangered.
“But the work of the recyclers will balance the earth; it will make it not to die. But I am urging everybody to plant trees to protect our planet earth from environmental degradation,” Iweka said.
And the Anambra state commissioner for environment, Dr. Clems Aguiyi, expressed satisfaction with the state-wide schools’ environmental project, which started at Ire Central School, Obosi.
He urged the staff members and pupils of the school to take care of their environment as directed by God, saying that cleanliness is next to godliness.
In her own comment, the headmistress of the school, Mrs. Ngozi Molokwu, said that the initiative would help the pupils to learn that waste could be converted to wealth.
“This environmental initiative will teach our children from the tender age that waste is not waste, but wealth; that plastic, paper and bottles can be sorted, recycled and reused. You are not just launching a waste collection point today, you are planting environmental consciousness in the next generation,” Molokwu said.
On his part, the President of Anambra State Waste Recyclers Multi-purpose Cooperative Society (ASWARCOOP), Pastor Ben Agape, revealed that the organization bought into the vision of the Anambra state commissioner for environment, which made it to partner with government to execute environmental protection projects in schools.
The climax of the event was the unveiling and inauguration of the project by the traditional ruler of Obosi and chairman of the Anambra state traditional rulers’ council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III).
Earlier, students of the Choice Immaculate Secondary School (CIDS) Obosi did a drama presentation that highlighted the consequences of dumping refuse in drainages.
People, also, learnt from the drama skit that waste could be converted to wealth.
Schools that attended the event were Union Secondary School, Obosi, Community Secondary School, Obosi, Perfect Minds International School, Obosi, and Anambra College of Health Technology, Obosi.
