President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain in Sokoto State, Kabiru Hassan, has warned that the alleged divisions between the party’s youth wing and the City Boy Movement could undermine efforts to secure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s return to office in 2027.
Hassan, in an interview with journalists, alleged that some youth leaders working for the party were being sidelined, a development he said could create disaffection and weaken mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed concern that some party members were not fully committed to the APC’s activities, while accusing some individuals of engaging in actions he described as anti-party.
According to him, the alleged “exclusion of hardworking youth leaders could discourage grassroots mobilisation and affect the party’s ability to coordinate its support base.”
Hassan said the relationship between the APC youth wing and the City Boy Movement needed attention, warning that “unresolved disagreements could affect the party’s campaign efforts across the state.”
He also expressed concern over the prolonged disagreement between Seyi and Dayo, calling on APC elders to intervene and facilitate reconciliation between the two.
“I find it concerning that APC elders have yet to intervene decisively to reconcile the prolonged disagreement between Seyi and Dayo,” Hassan said.
“At a time when the party needs the collective energy, unity and commitment of its youth more than ever before, especially as we approach the 2027 general elections, such divisions risk undermining the efforts of vibrant youth leaders across the party” he added.
He urged party elders to bring both parties together to restore mutual understanding, discipline and unity, stressing that personal differences should not undermine the collective interests of the APC.
“This is the time for our elders to step in, bring both parties together, and restore mutual understanding, discipline, and unity. The strength of our youth wing lies not in internal disagreements but in our ability to work together towards a common goal. We cannot afford to allow personal differences to weaken the collective efforts required to build on the achievements of the 2023 general elections,” he said.
Hassan further urged the party’s leadership to address grievances among young members, ensure inclusiveness and provide a platform for youth leaders to contribute meaningfully to the party’s activities.
He maintained that unity within the youth structure was important to sustaining effective grassroots mobilisation and preventing internal disagreements from undermining the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. (The Guardian)
