. . . As Nigerians unite for her ahead of US boxing showdown vs Jaica Green
By PETER ANOSIKE
Joana Nwamerue has declared that she is in a killer mood for her fight coming up this evening in Hard Rock Casino, Soundwaves, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Born to a Nigerian father and a Bulgarian mother, Nwamerue’s journey into the ring began not with a dream of glory but as a crucial necessity for self-defense against street racisim during her youth in Bulgaria.
Speaking after her final training, she said that she is in high spirit and ready to do what she knows how to do best – beat somebody and receive payment for doing that.
According to her, the final preparation went on well, adding that she is in good shape and highly motivated.
She said that – thanks to her Nigerian father – she has strong genes and bones that can stop anybody.
Nwamerue said that even though she respects her opponents, her major problem is herself.
According to her, “I am an African-Bulgarian, so I have good gene and strong bones. Once I train very well, I am unstoppable. I can punch harder than my opponents and a lot of the time I am quicker and swifter than my opponents because of my trainings in gymnasium and taekwondo which have helped to improve my leg flexibility, long-range footwork, and hip mobility, so I am very grateful to my mom who I can say unknowingly prepared me for a career in professional boxing. So, I usually worry about myself more than I worry about my opponents because I know that once I am at my best, nobody can stop me. But like I always say, I am also grateful to my opponents because they are the ones that I use to climb the ladder of the profession.”
Nwamerue said that her dream is to use her career in boxing to impact positively on the youths.
According to her, she wants to be a role model and also the standard for many young people.
Meanwhile, Nwamerue’s today’s showdown against Jaica Green at Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Casino has ignited a massive wave of national pride back home and across the diaspora.
Online spaces, sports forums, and social media platforms are buzzing with fervent support as fans mobilise to amplify her story and cheer her on.
Her powerful declaration that her African heritage gives her the inner toughness and punching power to dominate the ring has deeply resonated with a population that prides itself on resilience and unmatched strength.
This collective unity goes beyond just celebrating her victories in the ring.
It is a shared embrace of her mission to use boxing as a force for good.
Off the canvass, Nwamerue actively channels her passion into helping wayward youths and mentoring juveniles in prisons, teaching them to channel their aggression into profitable and structured sports rather than violence.
So, bound by a shared heritage, Nigerians everywhere are standing shoulder to shoulder, ready to watch their champion decimate her competition and continue her historic rise in the world of female boxing.
