Lagos REC, Prof Ayobami Salami
By ADEYEMI ADELEYE
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has debunked a media report alleging that the display of the Register of Voters did not take place at some Registration Area Centres (RACs) in Alimosho and Somolu Local Government Areas.
Prof. Ayobami Salami, Resident Electoral Commissioner, in a statement on Thursday, described the report as false and inconsistent with the actual situation.
The statement was signed by Mrs Esther Emeh, INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity Department.
The INEC official insisted that the exercise was conducted across all Registration Areas in the state.
“The Commission wishes to categorically state that the report is false and does not reflect the actual situation,” he said.
He added that the display of the Register of Voters was conducted across all 245 Registration Areas, also known as wards, in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the display of the Register of Voters was conducted across all 245 Registration Areas (Wards) in Lagos State, including all Registration Areas in Alimosho and Shomolu Local Government Areas,” he said.
Salami urged members of the public to disregard the report, describing it as misleading, and obtain accurate information through its official communication channels.
“The Commission therefore urges members of the public to disregard this misleading report and obtain accurate information through INEC’s official communication channels,” he added.
The REC also urged media organisations and practitioners to verify information with credible and authoritative sources before disseminating it to the public.
“Responsible journalism and accurate reporting are essential to preventing the spread of misinformation and maintaining public confidence in the electoral process,” he said.
Salami reiterated INEC commitment to transparency, credible electoral processes and the timely dissemination of accurate information to the public.
“INEC Lagos State remains committed to transparency, credible electoral processes, and the timely dissemination of accurate information to the public,” he said. (NAN)
