TikTok has denied imposing restrictions on access to its platform in parts of Northern Nigeria, saying it is engaging relevant stakeholders to resolve the situation following reports of access difficulties in some parts of the country.
The platform made its position known in an official statement made available to News Express via email on Monday, October 12, 2026, in response to reports of restricted access in parts of Northern Nigeria.
“We are aware of reports regarding restricted access to our platform in certain parts of Nigeria. We can confirm that this restriction was not implemented by TikTok,” the platform’s spokesperson said.
TikTok said it was working with relevant stakeholders to address the situation, but did not identify those involved or disclose the cause of the reported restriction.
“We are actively engaging with relevant stakeholders to resolve the situation,” the spokesperson stated.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining access to the platform for its users.
“We remain committed to ensuring access for our community,” the spokesperson added.
The statement did not specify the locations affected, the extent of the reported disruption or when access might be fully restored.
