APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda
Northcentral will host the first major Presidential campaign rally ahead of the January 16, 2027 election tomorrow.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), in the North-Central geo-political zone, has taken the lead in public rallies by mobilizing supporters and sympathisers from the six states to attend tomorrow’s rally in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
The states are Benue, Plateau, Kogi, Kwara, Niger and Nawarawa. Party supporter in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will also join the event described as “mother of all rally” by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the APC.
Yilwatda, who hails from Plateau State, declared that First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, would be the chief speaker at the mega rally designed to generate support for the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The mega rally will bring together thousands of party supporters, political office holders, women and youth groups.
The decision was reached at a high-level meeting of Northcentral APC stakeholders in Abuja yesterday, chaired by the Yilwatda.
The meeting, attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, governors, deputy governors, ministers, National Assembly members and other political office holders, unanimously endorsed a coordinated regional mobilisation strategy ahead of the rally.
Yilwatda said the gathering will serve as a major demonstration of the North-Central’s political solidarity with the Tinubu Administration.
APC National Chairman said participating governors, ministers, lawmakers and other stakeholders had agreed to deploy their political structures and grassroots networks to ensure massive participation.
The rally will be hosted by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
The involvement of Mrs Tinubu is expected to provide additional political momentum for the mobilisation, particularly among women and grassroots support groups.
The meeting also reaffirmed the determination of Northcentral APC stakeholders to strengthen political coordination across the zone, deepen grassroots engagement and consolidate support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
Stakeholders specifically acknowledged the Akume’s leadership role, in bringing together political leaders from across the region to pursue a common agenda.
They also commended Governor Sule for accepting to host the rally, describing the event as an important demonstration of unity and political commitment among party leaders in the zone.
Yilwatda expressed condolences to the families of victims of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State and the 37 miners in Niger State, who died in custody.
He described both incidents as painful national losses and extended sympathies to the bereaved families and affected communities.
The planned gathering follows earlier consultations among political leaders in the region aimed at strengthening party structures, harmonising political interests and building a united front in support of the President’s re-election ambition.
The North-Central is controlled fully by the APC. All governors in the region are members of the APC. The ruling party also controls majority of members in all Houses of Assembly. (The Nation)
