CP Nnanna Oji Ama
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji-Ama, has queried the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the 3-3 Police Station, Onitsha, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) over circumstances surrounding the strange disappearance of an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the station.
Also, CP Oji-Ama has directed the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police in connection with the incident.
The order was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday.
The directives followed CP Oji-Ama’s personal interview with the complainant and police officers involved in the matter on Monday, 5 October 2026.
A trending viral video alleged that an armed robbery suspect arrested and brought to the 3-3 Police Station could no longer be accounted for.
The Commissioner described the allegation as serious, stressing that any failure to properly account for a suspect in police custody could undermine public confidence in the Force.
He warned that the Command would not tolerate acts of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established police procedures by any officer.
Consequently, CP Oji-Ama directed the Command’s X-Squad to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts.
The investigation will also examine the roles, actions and responsibilities of all officers involved in the matter.
The Commissioner further disclosed that necessary operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect, while assuring members of the public that the outcome of the investigation would be made known once the facts had been established.
He cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation, insisting that the facts of the matter must be established through due process.
CP Oji-Ama reiterated that accountability remained a core component of his leadership philosophy, stressing that no police officer was above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process. (Nigerian Tribune)
