CP Nnenna Oji Ama
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered queries against the Divisional Police Officer in charge of 3-3 Police Station and two other officers over the alleged disappearance of an armed robbery suspect from custody.
The CP gave the directive on Monday after personally interviewing the complainant and the officers involved, following a viral video alleging that a suspect arrested and brought to the station could not be accounted for.
In a Tuesday statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra police command said the commissioner ordered the immediate issuance of queries to the DPO and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while directing disciplinary proceedings against an inspector.
The commissioner described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the police.
“The allegation is serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the Police. The Command will not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or compromise of established procedures,” CP Ama was quoted as saying.
The CP directed the X-Squad of the command to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts of the suspect, including the roles of officers involved.
The command said operational measures have been put in place to re-arrest the suspect, assuring that the outcome of the investigation would be made public.
The CP also cautioned members of the public against circulation of unverified information capable of prejudicing the ongoing investigation.
He reiterated that accountability remains a core component of his leadership philosophy and that no officer is above scrutiny. (The Sun)
