The building on fire
A fire on Saturday gutted the top floor of a storey building at No. 41 Cameroon Road, Navy House, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its Shark Team, deployed from the Lekki Base, received a distress call about the incident at 5:12pm and arrived at the scene within 20 minutes.
According to the agency, the team found the top floor of the building completely engulfed in flames on arrival.
LASEMA said preliminary investigation indicated that the fire was caused by a power surge.
It said its responders immediately activated the Emergency Response Plan and, in collaboration with other emergency agencies, contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to other floors and adjoining structures.
The operation involved the LASEMA Shark Team, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Navy Dockyards Limited, Nigerian Navy and Nigeria Police Force.
The agency said no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident.
It added that responders conducted risk assessment and hazard identification after containing the fire, followed by dampening-down operations to prevent possible re-ignition.
The fire was completely extinguished by 8:33pm, after which the Shark Team returned to its base, LASEMA said. (The Nation)
