The National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance, NDYFGG, Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, has called on the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to urgently review the appointments of some Commissioners, Local Government Council Chairmen, and aides over alleged cases of thuggery and misconduct.

In a statement personally signed and issued to newsmen in Asaba Delta State Capital, Comr. Ukueku expressed concern over what he described as the increasing involvement of some political appointees in acts of violence and intimidation against citizens.

Comr. Ukueku, who has served in various political and student leadership positions, said “leadership is about patience, understanding, loyalty, humility, and the fear of God.”

According to him, a review of the conduct of aides, Council Chairmen, and Commissioners in the Governor Sheriff administration shows that a majority display thuggish and violent tendencies, while only a few, especially those with sound educational backgrounds, conduct themselves responsibly.

He noted that the situation has become a threat to Delta youths, with reports of Council Chairmen and Commissioners allegedly assaulting members of the public under the present administration.

“This is not surprising to me. There is a saying that ‘show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.’ The character of appointees reflects on the government,” he said.

Comr. Ukueku urged the Governor to, as a matter of urgency, call his appointees to order or subject them to leadership and ethical reorientation training.

“Nobody was appointed to humiliate citizens. No one has a monopoly of violence. We are in a democracy, not an autocracy,” he stated.

He further observed that such incidents of public officials assaulting citizens or engaging in street fights were not recorded in previous administrations in the state.

The NDYFGG President warned that failure to take decisive action would leave the group with no option but to mobilize a peaceful protest at the National Assembly and the APC National Secretariat to register their displeasure over the appointment of violent individuals as public officials.

He also demanded that all victims of assault and humiliation by government appointees be adequately compensated, while those found culpable should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“The Governor of Delta State cannot appoint thugs and expect the good people of Delta to remain silent. Governance must be people centered,” Comr. Ukueku concluded.
