The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, on Sunday attended the Nigeria Premier Football League fixture between Ikorodu City FC and Enugu Rangers International FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

Obi was seen in the stadium stands alongside the President of Ikorodu City FC, Sanmi Doherty, as the Lagos-based club secured a 2-0 victory over the defending champions.

Videos shared on X by sports photojournalist Pooja Media showed Obi watching the match from the stands and interacting with people around him.

Another video showed fans approaching the former Anambra State governor for photographs during the half-time break.

Photographs posted by Obi’s photographer Esther Umoh also showed him posing with members of the Enugu Rangers team.

Ikorodu City also shared the moment on its X handle with the caption “Live at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to witness the beauty of the ‘NPFL—Nigeria Premiere Football League.’ Ikorodu City plays host to Rangers in #NPFL27 | Match Day 6. Welcome to Lagos, @PeterObi.

The club took the lead in the eighth minute through Aderemi Adeoye before Ikechukwu Junior doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute to seal a 2-0 victory for the hosts.

The match was a Matchday Six fixture of the 2026/27 NPFL season.

Obi’s appearance at the match comes as the NDC continues preparations for the 2027 general election.

The party said earlier in September that Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, had been given the authority to nominate key officials of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council. (PUNCH)
