Troops of Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have neutralised a suspected terrorist, recovered an AK-47 rifle and a cache of ammunition in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

This is contained in a statement by Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, Media and Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North-West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on Sunday in Gusau, Zamfara.

Danja said that on the evening of the same day, Sept. 26, troops of Sector 2 in separate operations rescued six victims of attempted kidnapping in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara.

According to him, in Sokoto State, on September 26, troops of Sector 2 acted on credible intelligence indicating the presence of a suspected terrorist camp in Gudu local government area and moved swiftly to assault the location.

“During the operation, troops made contact with an isolated terrorist and neutralised him.

“Items recovered from the encounter include one AK-47 rifle, ammunition, a foreign military uniform, and various tools and clothing,” he said.

Danja said that in Tsafe local government area, acting on intelligence, troops intercepted and foiled an attempted kidnapping of six victims.

“On arrival at the scene, troops engaged the terrorists with effective fire, forcing them to withdraw towards nearby bushes.

“In the course of the operation, six kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and taken to a place of safety, pending reunification with their families.

“These successes underscore the resolve and professionalism of JTF NW OPFY troops in safeguarding lives and property across the North-West,” he said.

Danja enjoined the public to support troops with credible and timely information on the activities of terrorists and other criminal elements within their communities. (NAN)
