The Chairman of the Barau Jibrin Campaign Media Centre, Comrade Abdullahi Umar Bichi, has resigned his appointment to lead the media and communication component of the Deputy President of the Senate’s 2027 campaign.

Bichi’s resignation stroke fresh crack in the political structure of the ranking Senator, representing Kano North Senatorial district.

Bichi announced his decision in a resignation statement, bringing an abrupt end to his leadership of the campaign media outfit that has served as one of the senator’s principal communication platforms ahead of the 2027 political cycle.

His exit comes amid growing political realignments within Senator Barau’s camp in Kano North, where a wave of resignations and shifting loyalties has fueled speculation over the strength of the senator’s grassroots political machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.

In the statement, he expressed profound appreciation to Senator Barau and the Director-General of the Media Centre, BYS Shuwaki, for the opportunity to serve in the organisation.

“I remain grateful to Senator Barau I. Jibrin and the Director-General, BYS Shuwaki, for the opportunity to work with them and contribute to the Media Centre,” he said.

The former chairman also thanked members of the media team for their cooperation, loyalty and support throughout his tenure, describing the experience as both rewarding and memorable.

However, Bichi did not disclose the reason for his resignation, while the statement equally failed to identify a successor to lead the Barau Jibrin Campaign Media Centre.

His resignation came few days after a major grassroot mobilizer in Barau Jibrin’s political structure, Mustapha Yahaya Shuwaki declared his readiness to part away from the Deputy President of the Senate.

Shuwaki had cited Barau’s failure to intervene in challenges bedeviling communities in Kano North including lack of basic health care facilities, schools, good road network and water. (The Guardian)
