Former Nigeria champions, Kano Pillars, were in imperious form on Sunday as they walloped visiting Doma United 4-1 in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Week 4 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
However, there were painful home defeats for the duo of Enyimba FC and Kun-Khalifat, who lost to Inter Lagos and Enugu Rangers respectively to maintain their poor start to the 2026/2027 season.
Former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, set Pillars on the path of victory with the opening goal in the 20th minute via a fine finish. Ageless Rabiu Ali, who missed from the spot in the 29th minute, atoned for his mistake as he doubled the lead in the 32nd minute for the “Masu Gida” boys to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
On resumption, Rilwan Sadiq reduced the deficit for Doma United in the 53rd minute, but Ahmed Musa restored the two-goal cushion with his brace in the 77th minute before Nasairu Salihu sealed the massive win in the 90th minute.
Despite their first defeat of the season, Doma United still occupy the top of the table with nine points, followed closely by Barau FC, who have won two and drawn two matches.
Meanwhile, it was another miserable day for Enyimba after they were stunned 1-0 in Aba by Inter Lagos, leaving the former African champions last on the table without a single point after three matches.
In Owerri, visiting Enugu Rangers ran riot as they mauled Kun-Khalifat 4-2. Folarin Temitope gave Rangers the lead in the 28th minute, Preje Seikorowei equalised for the hosts in the 41st minute, but Waheed restored Rangers’ lead before the interval.
Nineteen-year-old Chimobi Igwilo then scored a brace in the second half to ensure Rangers recorded a massive win, just as the hosts’ woes were compounded by an own goal in the 85th minute.
In other matches played yesterday, Plateau United edged 10-man 3SC 3-1 in Jos, Rivers United forced Nasarawa United to a 1-1 draw in Lafia, Abia Warriors shocked Sporting 2-0 in Lagos while Eventus Itolowo scored in the 7th minute to hand Warri Wolves a slim 1-0 victory over Kwara United in Ozoro.
