Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says his administration has not borrowed any money since he assumed office, despite servicing loans inherited from previous administrations.

Sani made the claim during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday, while responding to questions about his administration’s spending and the state’s increased revenue.

According to the governor, Kaduna State currently pays about ₦6.7 billion monthly to service inherited loans.

“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo,” Sani said.

He attributed the decision to what he described as prudent financial management and careful prioritisation of government spending.

“It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money,” he said.›

Sani also described his administration as successful, citing achievements in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development and security.

On education, the governor said Kaduna had identified about 550,000 out-of-school children through a household-mapping exercise conducted across the state.

He said more than 300,000 children have since been returned to classrooms, describing the initiative as a work in progress.

Sani added that the data-driven approach was helping the state better target interventions for out-of-school children.
