Late popular mediapreneur Dotun Oladipo
Tragedy befell the Nigerian media yesterday, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as popular mediapreneur Dotun Oladipo died suddenly at 56.
The Lagos-based veteran journalist, former Politics Editor of PUNCH newspapers, union leader and astute administrator died shortly after taking ill at his office in the Ogba area of Lagos. The Publisher of The Eagle Online “appeared to be in his usual state of health earlier in the day before suddenly taking ill at his office,” the popular online daily reported this morning. “Oladipo’s death came as a shock to colleagues, friends and associates,” it added.
A fine gentleman, devout Christian and devoted family man, Oladotun Samson Oladipo reportedly suffered a heart attack and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A pioneer member and former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Mr. Oladipo was until his death the pioneer President of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS).
His death came just over a year after he narrowly survived the Otedola Bridge tanker fire with his wife and daughter. His mechanic, Rotimi Olaleye, died in the incident and Oladipo’s vehicle was destroyed.
Tributes have been pouring in for the departed online media leader.
