The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has apprehended a hit-and-run driver who allegedly knocked down one of its officers at a checkpoint in Dambatta Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesman of the agency, Abubakar Ibrahim on Monday in Kano.

According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m, when the driver allegedly attempted to evade a checkpoint mounted by KAROTA personnel at Dambatta Unit.

“The driver knocked down the patrol team second-in-command, Nasir Abdullahi, while attempting to evade the checkpoint.

“The victim was left unconscious and sustained multiple fractures as a result of the incident.

"The driver initially escaped from the scene, but KAROTA intelligence officers continued to trail him and eventually tracked him down”.

He said the suspect was subsequently handed over to the Traffic Division of Kano State Police Command at Kofar Nassarawa for further investigation and prosecution.

Ibrahim added that the injured officer was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.

The spokesman said that a medical examination revealed that he sustained six fractures from injuries he suffered from the incident.

He commended the Agency’s intelligence officers for their efforts in apprehending the suspect.

Ibrahim also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officers at checkpoints to avoid such incidents. (NAN)
