The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspects after a video showing some youths harassing motorists in the state circulated widely on social media.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, the command said it was aware of the trending footage showing “some miscreants harassing motorists and creating distress along the road.”

The video, shared on Wednesday by user @MrMekzy, depicts several young men surrounding a private vehicle in traffic.

They gestured aggressively towards the driver, waved objects and pressed against the car in a manner that nearly damaged the side mirror.

The poster wrote, “This is not even a celebrity, this is a normal person going about his day and they almost destroyed his side mirror. How are you people coping with this in Lagos? Why isn’t anyone doing anything about it?”

The police clarified that officers had already been monitoring and taking proactive steps against such activities before the video went viral.

“Following the incident, six (6) suspects have been arrested on the same road, and investigation is ongoing.

“Officers have also been strategically deployed to intensify surveillance and prevent a recurrence,” the statement said.

The command thanked members of the public for drawing attention to the matter and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to help keep Lagos safe.

The development comes amid public complaints about the activities of street touts, popularly known as agberos.

In recent months, figures including actress Bimbo Ademoye, comedian Brain Jotter and music video director TG Omori have publicly decried harassment, extortion and vehicle damage allegedly involving street touts and area boys targeting motorists and film crews across the state. (The PUNCH)
