Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris
Following an ultimatum issued by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, to embark on industrial action over outstanding demands, the Kebbi State Government has approved and released N172.15 million to settle staff allowances.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, disclosed this during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
According to him, the State Governor, Nasir Idris, approved the release on August 14, 2026, for the payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowances (CATA) and Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowances (CONTTA) to members of ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT at the university.
Tunga said the governor had also approved the inclusion of the CATA/CONTTA salary structure in the university’s monthly subvention, with an annual cost of N2.06 billion.
He added that the governor approved and released N151.52 million for the payment of identified annual increment arrears owed to staff of the university.
According to the commissioner, the governor had also launched the distribution of seven 32-seater, fully air-conditioned Coaster buses to seven state-owned tertiary institutions at a total cost of N1.75 billion.
The beneficiary institutions are Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero; Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; Kebbi State College of Nursing Sciences, Birnin Kebbi; Kauran Gwandu College of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences, Ambursa; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; and the College of Advanced and Legal Studies, Yauri.
Tunga said the various approvals made by the governor for the Ministry of Higher Education in August amounted to N2.07 billion.
In another development, Governor Idris approved the appointment of Dr Zayyanu Umar as Provost of Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu.
The commissioner commended the governor for what he described as his commitment to the development of tertiary education in Kebbi State. (Channels)
