Gunmen shot two herders dead and injured one other in separate attacks around Kpanchuku in Jebbu Bassa and Gana Ropp Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

According to the State Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Muhammad Salihu Isa, the deceased, Sani Ibrahim, was ambushed while grazing, while Asma’u Salihu was attacked at home, when gunmen invaded the community.

Condemning the incident, the Secretary said the gunmen shot the victims and fled the area.

“The leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Plateau State Chapter, condemns in strong terms the brutal killing of our members.

“Sani Ibrahim, 18 years old, was attacked and killed by suspected armed militia at Kpachuku in Jebbu Bassa Local Government Area this afternoon, 14th August, 2026, while grazing his cattle. In the same vein, a 15-year-old was killed when gunmen attacked the community.

“We describe these acts as barbaric, inhumane, unprovoked and unacceptable. We have lost many herders and cattle to gunmen. We cannot move freely to tend to our cattle.

“Despite the incessant attacks, we still call on all members and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding, and not to take the law into their own hands,” Isa said.

The secretary, however, urged security agencies and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.

He said the dastardly act must not be allowed to continue.

“We commiserate with the family of the deceased. We call on members to remain calm and law abiding,” he said.

Salihu Isa, the father of Asma’u, one of the deceased, described the attack on their community as worrisome.

Narrating the incident, he said, “We had just observed the last prayer of the day when gunmen suddenly started opening fire, resulting in the death of my daughter. The gunmen also injured my son. We have reported the incident to security agencies.”

Spokesperson of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, did not respond to inquiry from our correspondent as of press time. (Daily Trust)
