A 55-year-old voter, Sharafa Lasisi, has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for assistance after he was unable to complete facial verification with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the Osun governorship election.
Lasisi encountered the problem at Polling Unit 006, Ward 04, in the Isale/Oke-Afo area of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Saturday.
He said he made several attempts to have the BVAS machine recognise his face but was unsuccessful.
According to the voter, electoral officials attributed the difficulty to a network problem and advised him to leave the polling unit and return later.
Lasisi said he followed the instruction but encountered the same difficulty when he returned.
He said, “My name is Sharafa Lasisi. I am from Alamisi Unit 6. I am 55 years old. I have been to where they are supposed to verify my face but they said the network isn’t letting the verification go through.”
He added, “They said I should go and eat at home. I went and came back and it still didn’t go through. I want them to help me so I will be able to cast my vote also.”
Lasisi appealed to INEC and other electoral officials to resolve the problem and ensure that he was not prevented from exercising his right to vote.
His experience occurred as voters continued to turn out at polling units across Osun State for the governorship election. (The Sun)
