Prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) have been advised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to confirm the accuracy of their National Identification Number (NIN) records before starting the registration process.

The Board issued the advisory in its recent “JAMB Explained” series, urging candidates to carefully review their personal information with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) before creating their JAMB profiles.

JAMB specifically asked candidates to check the spelling and arrangement of their names, dates of birth and other details attached to their NIN records.

The Board explained that the personal information displayed on a candidate’s JAMB profile is obtained from the NIN database and is not independently generated by JAMB.

“JAMB does not create or edit your details. They come directly from your NIN record with NIMC,” the Board stated.

It also cautioned candidates who notice inaccuracies in their records against assuming that an affidavit would automatically resolve the problem on the JAMB platform.

“Getting an affidavit won’t automatically make JAMB to update your record,” the Board added.

Candidates with incorrect information were advised to first follow the appropriate NIMC procedure for correcting their records. JAMB said this should be done before candidates proceed with profile creation and examination registration.

The Board also highlighted the need for candidates to ensure that their JAMB registration information corresponds with the records maintained by NIMC, particularly their names and dates of birth.

For candidates who need to make changes, JAMB provides a Correction of Data option covering details such as names, date of birth, state or local government of origin and gender, subject to the applicable procedures and fees.

JAMB urged prospective UTME and DE candidates to resolve discrepancies early, noting that checking their information before registration could help prevent avoidable difficulties during the admission process. (The Guardian)
