Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has commenced steps to establish the facts surrounding the academic credentials of one of its professors, Arc. Abdullahi Abubakar, whose extensive list of qualifications has attracted attention within and outside the university community.
The University said it was aware of the viral social media publication on the professor’s credentials and would make its stand public after conducting a necessary investigation into the matter.
Awwal Umar, the Director, Directorate of Public Affairs, ABU, who confirmed the development, said the institution would respond to the matter at the appropriate time after establishing the facts.
He stressed that the university would not rush to conclusions, noting that the necessary investigative process must be completed before any substantive position could be made available to the public.
The development followed reports and social media posts highlighting the academic profile of the professor, which reportedly includes five PhDs, five master’s, 7 degrees, 11 diplomas and other academic credentials.
The extensive academic profile has generated interest, particularly given the professor’s position at the university and his involvement in teaching, research and other scholarly engagements.
Efforts by our correspondent to obtain the professor’s detailed reaction were unsuccessful, as repeated telephone calls to him were not answered.
However, in response to a text message seeking his comments on the matter, the professor indicated that he was aware of the request but would not comment immediately.
“Yours refers and noted, but not for now. Thank you,” he replied in a text message.
He did not indicate when he would provide a detailed response or clarify the qualifications attributed to him. (Daily Trust)
