Activista Nigeria’s voter mobilisation exercise has reached 503 citizens across five states and the Federal Capital Territory, as part of efforts to strengthen civic participation and encourage eligible Nigerians to register for their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The voter mobilisation, PVC collection and registration exercise, conducted from July 23 to 25, 2026, was implemented in Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Adamawa states and the FCT, with funding support from ActionAid Nigeria through the Direct Action Fund (DAF) under the MOVE Project.

According to the activity report, 476 citizens were mobilised for new PVC registration, while 27 registered voters were supported to collect their PVCs, bringing the total number of citizens mobilised to 503.

Women accounted for 276 of those mobilised, representing 54.9 per cent, while 227 were male, representing 45.1 per cent.

The exercise formed part of Activista Nigeria’s commitment to promoting active citizenship and strengthening democratic participation. It focused on creating awareness about the importance of voter registration and PVC collection while encouraging eligible citizens to participate in the electoral process.

As part of the intervention, Activista Nigeria conducted community sensitisation sessions, engaged eligible residents individually and accompanied citizens to registration centres to complete the registration process.

The organisation also collaborated with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in some communities, where officials were invited to register eligible voters directly.

The activity report noted that some community members were initially hesitant to participate, citing inadequate information about the registration process and distrust in the electoral system, including concerns that their votes would not count.

However, continued engagement and awareness-raising helped address these concerns and encouraged participation.

Beyond the registration and PVC collection figures, the sensitisation activities also encouraged participants to become ambassadors for voter registration within their communities.

Activista Nigeria said sustained community sensitisation, expanded mobilisation exercises and stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders would be necessary to increase voter registration and participation.

The organisation's intervention, according to the report, contributed to strengthening civic engagement and promoting inclusive participation in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general election.
