General Overseer of El-Buba Outreach Ministries, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has condemned Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir over comments urging Muslims to support Muslim-Muslim political tickets and referring to Christians as infidels.

Jingir made the remarks at a political event in support of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, according to a video circulating on social media.

Reacting in a video, El-Buba said such comments were capable of deepening religious divisions in the country, particularly at a time when northern Nigeria is facing insecurity, poverty, banditry and drug abuse.

He urged religious and political leaders to focus on promoting unity and addressing the challenges confronting Nigerians rather than making statements capable of creating religious tension.

El-Buba said he had supported thousands of Muslims across northern Nigeria despite their different religious backgrounds, arguing that Nigerians should work together regardless of their faith.

He also questioned whether a Muslim-Muslim political ticket would address issues such as poverty, insecurity and unemployment.

According to him, political leaders should be judged by their ability to improve the lives of citizens rather than their religious identity.

“I’m coming to every Nigerian with a very serious, heavy heart, because I thought that at this stage of our lives, especially when we’re getting older, we should begin to think about Nigeria and how we can all live together in peace.

“You called Christians infidels? You mindless creature. Are you not ashamed? Are you not ashamed that banditry is here in the north? Criminality is here in the north. It is here in the north you have the highest level of drug addicts,” he said.

El-Buba also called on the Kano State Government to address what he described as inflammatory rhetoric, while urging Muslims to reject statements capable of creating hostility towards Christians.

He said Nigeria was bigger than any individual or political interest and urged Nigerians to prioritise peaceful coexistence and national unity.

He added that religious leaders should use their platforms to promote solutions to poverty, insecurity and other social challenges confronting the country. (Nigerian Tribune)
